Biography

Jasmine Forrest began training at Pacific Northwest Ballet School in 2004 and departed in 2011 to pursue competitive dance t middle school and Highschool. Prior to graduating in 2019, she was accepted into the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College to study Contemporary Dance. There she was mentored by Mila Thigpen, Ruka White and Kurt Douglas. While at the Conservatory, Jasmine had the opportunity to perform choreographic works developed by Brian Brooks and Margot Gelber as well as choreographing her own works. Forrest established that her work centers around portraying black cultural affects, diaspora and aesthetics.Forrest, a Black Scholars Initiative Ambassador and Black Student Union board member Dance Representative for Berklee College of Music, prioritized building community within the black student body through dance and mental health awareness education as she has dealt with her own battles with depression and anxiety. As a dance educator she emphasizes the significance of valuing the person beyond the moving body and how in order to create a more open line of communication and honest work environment you must be honest with yourself as an individual. These principles supports Jasmines work as a -       . Her passion for teaching was fostered by Kurt Douglas and has inspired her to choreograph her own works. Moving forward she is planning to combine her training to perform and teach young black girls and boys to diversify the classical dance industry.
